Course-based or thesis-based?

Thesis-based masters usually come with funding through a supervisor and lead naturally to a PhD. Course-based professional masters are faster and more employment-focused but you pay the full fee.

How does the post-graduation work permit work?

Its length matches your program: up to three years for a program of two years or longer. It is an open work permit, so you are not tied to one employer.

Which city should I pick on cost?

Montreal is substantially cheaper than Toronto or Vancouver, and McGill and Concordia teach in English. Waterloo and Ottawa sit in between with strong technology employment.

Spouses of students in master and doctoral programs can generally apply for an open work permit; eligibility for other program levels has narrowed, so check current rules before you plan around it.

Study in Canada

Canada offers a three-year post-graduation work permit after most master degrees and a well-defined route from work permit to permanent residence, which is why it attracts students planning to stay. Research masters are usually funded through a supervisor; course-based professional masters are not.
